Which iPhones and languages support On-device AI?

On-device AI runs Apple’s speech model and Apple Intelligence on the phone itself. Nothing is uploaded. It is available when all three conditions are met:
- An iPhone with Apple Intelligence. iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max, and every iPhone 16 and iPhone 17 model.
- Apple Intelligence turned on. Open Settings, then Apple Intelligence and Siri, and turn it on. iOS downloads the models the first time; this can take a few minutes on Wi-Fi.
- A supported language. On-device AI follows the languages Apple supports on the device. Memo checks this when you choose the engine.
If any of the three is missing, Memo offers Cloud AI instead. Cloud AI works on every iPhone on iOS 26 and in more than 99 languages. It uploads the audio to Memo’s servers, and the app asks before every upload. See Does my audio leave my phone?.
You can use both engines on the same phone and pick per recording.

Does On-device AI need an internet connection?
No. Once Apple's speech and language models are installed on the phone, On-device AI works without a connection.
