How to record a phone call and get a transcript

Memo does not record calls on its own. iPhone has built-in call recording, and Memo turns that recording into a transcript, a summary and a title. The steps are also shown in Memo under the plus menu, then Record Call.

Record the call

1. Open the Phone app and start a call.
2. During the call, tap the More button, then Call Recording. iPhone plays an audio notice so that everyone on the call knows it is being recorded.
3. To stop, tap Stop or hang up. iPhone saves the recording in the Notes app, in the Call Recordings folder.

Bring it into Memo

4. Open Notes and tap the note in the Call Recordings folder.
5. Tap Share and choose Memo from the list.
6. Memo imports the audio and produces the transcript, summary and title with the engine you choose. On-device AI keeps the audio on the phone; Cloud AI uploads it, and the app asks first.

Consent

Laws on recording calls differ by country, and in some countries by state or region. Some require every participant’s consent, others only one. The simple rule is to say that you are recording and get a yes. iPhone’s audio notice helps, but you are responsible for following the law that applies to you and the other people on the call.
